The Rotary Peace Fellowship program and it Peace Fellows have been in the midst of helping to find ways to create lasting peace and have a positive impact on our world.
Due to the incredible efforts of the Rotary Club of Lincoln CA USA and member, Joann Hilton, District 5180 has its first Rotary Peace Fellow in many years.
From Joann...
"I am so delighted and excited to report to you that our candidate for Peace Fellow, Chaw Pyai Tharhas been accepted to the Peace Fellowship Certificate Program..….This is the Certificate Program which is reserved for very experienced and skilled candidates to attend a 10 week Fellowship University program followed by the implementation of their own Social Change initiative for 10 months.
She is currently serving with the Peace Corps in Panama and some of you helped with funding the school for developmentally disabled where she is working.
I could not be more proud of this young lady who decided on this journey at the age of 12. Please join me in congratulating her. Her sponsoring District is 5180 and her sponsoring Club is Lincoln. This is our first successful Peace Fellow candidate in many years."

Let's join in and give Chaw and the Lincoln Rotary Club a BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
This is very exciting, and we will have a chance to watch Chaw's work as she is one of a handful of Rotary Peace Fellows working in the world (see the information and picture below of the 8 Rotary Peace Centers at 9 universities across the globe).
Rotary has five centers thatoffer master’s degrees in disciplines related to peace and development:
•Ajoint program at Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, USA
•International Christian University, Japan
•University of Bradford, England
•University of Queensland, Australia
•Uppsala University,Sweden
“Our Master’s program is intended for individuals at the start of their peacebuilding careers. Each year, 50 fellows are assigned to a master’sprogram (10 fellows per center) that lasts from 15-24months.”
Chaw will be at the center in Uganda and according to Rotary the “center at Makerere University (Ma-KAY-ray-ray) in Kampala, Uganda, offers apostgraduate diploma in peacebuilding and conflict transformation that is intended for mid-career working professionals. This one-year professional development certificate program blends online learning, classroom studies and field visits, and a nine-month social change initiative. Each year, 40 fellows (two classes of 20 fellows) are selected to participate in the program at Makerere University.”
