The purpose of the scholarship program is to promote goodwill through study in another country. The program supports the mission of the Rotary Foundation to further international
understanding and world peace. Applicants study abroad in a foreign country for
one year, or receive a cultural scholarship where they immerse in the culture for
three to six months.
Applicants are eligible to apply if they meet the following
criteria:
Two years of completed coursework (or a secondary school education and
employment in a recognized vocation for at least two years).
All applicants must
be citizens of a country in which there is a rotary club. (May not be a Rotarian
or lineal descendant (spouse, child, grandchild) of a Rotarian.

The scholarship
is for one year of full-time study, funding provided is usually $25,000, includes
reasonable room and board, transportation, required fees for the course load, and
some educational supplies.
The district has sent scholars to Oxford, Physicians
to South Africa, and PHD students to France, to name a few.
The funds donated to
Rotary International come back to our district through programs like these!!!!
Candidates
interested in studying abroad should contact the District Chair Jennifer Curtsinger
at (916) 834-0537. The applications must be received by each club by the end of
May. Applicants must be available for an interview. The eligible Candidates are
presented to the District in July and are interviewed through panel discussion.
